April is underway and, if the past couple of days are any indication, it will be a fantastic month. The month begins with an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7th. (10:00am - 6:00pm). In years past this has been a lot of fun for everyone. I'll hide the eggs on Friday night and I ensure you that it will be a egg hunt for adults (one egg per adult). I also guarantee you that it will be worth your time to find an egg. They will contain surprises, prizes, discounts, and whatever else I can conjure up.
Easter seems to be arriving early this year. The store will be closed Sunday, April 8th, in honor of the holiday.
As many of you have discovered, the dies from Memory Box are back in the store. The sales have been brisk as this item is retaining it's popularity in creating very elegant cards. Be sure and see how Mae used one of them in a card she made. You will see it toward the end of the Blog.
Fran Kawakami was in the store yesterday to drop off the samples for her class on Wednesday, April 11th (6:30-8:30pm). Wait until you see what Fran has planned for the class. The embellishments are so cute..... The class is called Ningyogami (Japanese Paper Dolls). The cost of the class is $20.00 and I believe there are only two seats available. The supplies you will need to bring are: Scotch craft glue / glue pen, double sided tape, scissors, Japanese hole punch (if you have) corner rounder, dark brown or black pen. Give me a call if you wish to sign up for the class.

Since the 2nd Sunday this month falls on Easter, Priscilla has moved the 2nd Sunday Make and Take It to Saturday, April 14th (2:00 - 5:00pm). The Make and Take It is always "Free" and will be a guaranteed fun time. We do ask, if you are able, to donate a dollar to the basket for the Food Bank. I will Blog a photo of the project when Priscilla gets the opportunity to make it.
Priscilla will hardly be able to catch her breath from the Make and Take It. On the following day, Sunday - April 15th (1:00 - 3:00pm), she will be conducting her "Whispering Bamboo" class. As I mentioned in the previous Blog, the anniversary card she made for me last year was a "hit" at the recent Scrapper's Jam. It's uniqueness is in the layering and the way it unfolds. If you want to try something new - take this class. It is for intermediate crafters. The Cost is $30.00 and includes a free stencil. The supplies you will need to bring are glossy black embossing paste, small spatula, 1/8" wide double sided adhesive, paper trimmer, Scor-pal or equal, pencil with white eraser, 12" ruler, 1-3 stencil brushes, and a rounded tip stylus (if you have one). The photos I have posted below are to give you an idea of what you will be doing in the class. The actual card that you will be making will be subtly different. The theme of the card will be "To Love You". Please give me a call if you have any questions.

The last class for the month will be Fran's "A Year in Cards" class on Wednesday, April 25th (6:30 - 8:30pm). It's early in the month, so I will posting the photos in a later Blog. All of Fran's classes this year have sold out, so I would advise signing up at your earliest convenience.
I saved the best for last, as I have photos of two cards that friends of A Place in Time brought into the store to share. Sue was getting a head start on the Easter season by using a Dreamweaver stencil, embossing paste, mica powders, and a very appropriate ribbon. It's a beautiful card and the best part it's handmade. Sue had recently taken Priscilla's "Stenciling Techniques" class and couldn't wait to get home and try out what she had learned. Great job Sue.

Mae came in the store yesterday and (with Art's guidance) experimented with the Copic pens and the Airbush tool. Mae chose Dreamweaver's Koi stencil and several pens to "play" with. The result was a beautiful blending of colors. As you look at the card, remember that this is Mae's first attempt with the airbrush system. You would never know that this is a first time effort. Mae took the results home and, to my surprise, returned a little later with a finished card. She used one of the new dies from Memory Box to provide a bordered window in the card face to frame the Koi. I think the result is a very elegant card. Mae left the card with me, so you will have the opportunity to see it the next time your in the store. I think Mae would agree with me when I say "this is something that all of you are capable of doing and it won't take a great deal of your time".

Art has been busy designing a new stencil for you to use in making a Mother's Day card. The sample I have for your review uses a base of matte black embossing paste. A combination of mica powders and variegated foil was then applied on top of the paste. For fun, "Glossy Accents" was added as a layer over the foil. It gives the foil a very dynamic look.

Thanks to Fran, I "borrowed" one of her "Paper Dolls" and combined it with our "Hibiscus Circle" stencil to create a cute card. Liquid Pearls add a nice accent also.

That's all for today...... see you at the store tomorrow
