Happenings at A Place in Time on March 28, 2013

Good Morning Everyone,

March is winding down on a high note. Fran's class (Ningyogami) is this Saturday and she has a full class of 10 people. Classes are always an exciting time with a lot of laughter and friends sharing their knowledge. I know Fran is thinking about her next class in April. I'll ask her what she is planning and let you know in the next Blog. Ha.. If history holds true, the class will be half full after the class this Saturday. Classmates take advantage of being here to be the first to sign up, assuring themselves a place at the table.

For added fun in the month April, Priscilla is going to be teaching a coloring class. She will be passing on the techniques and secrets she has learned over the past year or so. For me, the hardest thing to color are people - hair, skin, shades shadows, etc. Priscilla will show you how. So break out your Copic pens and get ready.  The following is what Priscilla has to say about the class:

         Hello Fellow Crafters,

Easter is around the corner and we wish you a fun and colorful day with friends and family. Now is our children's turn to color and hide eggs for their children and to make sure ALL the eggs are found. The Easter Egg Hunt for us was always pandemonium when the kids were home, even the adults started to look for the "Most Valuable" egg.

I have since learned more about coloring and have been working on a Copic coloring class. Mark your calendars for a lot of fun.

Class Title: Let's Face It, Coloring Can Get Hairy
                          Date: Sunday, April 14th, 2013
                          Time: 1:00 - 3:00pm
                          Fee:  To be determined

I have a limited amount of pens (one color each) and encourage you to bring your pens (clearly marked with you name). It is best to have 3 pens in the same "color family" separated by 2 or 3 digits in numbers, ie.: B03, B05, B08. We will be concentrating doing only skin and hair. It is the technique on how to apply color that you will learn. If all you have are green, then you will have green people or green hair. It's ok - it's the technique that is important and if you learn it the color wont matter. It could be interesting.......

Supplies needed for the class: Pen or pencil, Copic Sketch color markers, E000, E00, E01, E11, E13. If you want - For Blondish hair bring Y's, Brownish hair bring E's, Black hair bring higher number W's and #100 Black. If you have only (1) number in the color, let's see if we can make it work with the same color layering.

Coloring skin and hair seems to be challenging for most people, including me! This is what the class will concentrate on entirely. I have experimented with different colors just because I (you) can. All you are going to do in thtis class is color, color, color.! There is no cutting, no pasting, no assembly, just coloring and writing down what you are doing. It will be a lot of fun.

To aide you, we have a limited supply of Copic Coloring Guide Books 1, 2, and 3 for sale. These books are excellent reference guides. Book 1 covers the different stroke techniques (a must have guide), Book 2 covers coloring Nature, and Book 3 covers coloring People. We also have a limited "People" pen sets of 12 and one (1) Limited Edition Copic Set of 36  for sale.

Are you ready to be amazed with your hidden coloring talent? Sign up early, there is limited seating and (2) seats have already been reserved! Call Bill at 808-261-2882 to register.

May the Crafting Spirit Be With You,

Priscilla

The following are photo's of some of the coloring samples. The samples are a lot better looking than my photos - so what else is new Ha!!!

I like it when Priscilla writes something for the Blog. I might also ad, if you want me to set any of the pen sets or coloring guides for you, just let me know. I'll find out what the class will cost later today. I'm sure it wont be expensive.

The last thing I have for you is a project Art and I were involved in for an aviation unit stationed on the island. Major Mike called and asked if we could engrave on the rocket head of an aircraft missile. Now that I have your attention, this is a replica in wood that someone turned on a lathe. Art did a fantastic job redrawing their unit emblem and the engraving was very impressive. The rocket head will be attached to the missile's actual base (the rocket base and head measures approx. 5ft long)  and will make a fantastic gift. I'm sure the Colonel will be very proud to have this in his display case.

One other specialty item we did was for the COB (Chief of the Boat) on the USS Greeneville. The COB's wife brought in 2 submarines cut out of  some beautiful Koa wood. I'm bound by secrecy to say any thing more.

That's all for now ...... I'll see you tomorrow,

Bill
