Happenings at A Place in Time on December 4, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

Whew! Art and I were very busy last week. The order for 750 name tags from the Four Seasons Resorts Lana'i arrived and we shipped the name tags last Friday. Sandwiched in between were engraving chopsticks, glassware, a leather journal, acrylic plaques, and koa pens.

We've also been busy developing some new stencils that I think you will enjoy also. We had a call yesterday from Nancy - she lives in Ozark, Alabama - and wanted our Mokulua Islands stencil. Her plan was to use the image on her mailbox. It's easy for us to customize the size to fit the item you want to use it on. Her stencil is going out in the mail today  Our new program gives you the flexibility of ordering any of our stencils by giving me a phone call. Most of our stencils will fit in a standard sized envelope. There's no shipping charge. If your order is larger we'll use the flat rate boxes from the Post Office and just pass along that cost to you. There is no handling fee. Saves you time and gas but I'd rather see your smiley face.

The stencils I have for you to see today are 1. North Shore Wave  2. North Shore Moon  3 & 4 are two background design using the Sakura Flower. We also have a card(s) that Priscilla made using our new Sakura Blossom stencil. I hope you like them.

First up is a sympathy card Priscilla made for a neighbor. Simple but elegant.

Sakura Blossom

Second is a new stencil were affectionately calling North Shore Wave.

Third is a Sakura Flower background. Emboss it on the Big Shot and layer any other design that you like over the top of it to fit the occasion.

Sakura Blossom Background

Fourth is another card made by Priscilla. It's hard to see because of my photo taking ability (Ha), but this is a traditional folded card, but the front of the card is only 1/2 the height of the total card. The Sakura Blossum is embossed on the front fold and then Priscilla cut along the top edge thereby exposing the Merry Christmas and swirls that would normally be hidden. Dry embossed on the Big Shot, use your favorite pigment ink colors and embossing powders and you have a really nice card. I have it on display in our Laser Den.

Sakura Blossom

Fifth is more detailed Sakurs Flower and using it as a background. I really like the fine detail of this image and I think it will give you some new ideas in the cards you will be making.

Sakura Blossom Background

Sixth is a slight modification the the North Wave Stencil by adding a moon or sun if you prefer. I think it has a grace and delicate feel. I'd use crystals where the dots appear.

Happenings at A Place in Time on November 19, 2012

Aloha Everyone,

There are 3 holidays during the year that I consider to be my favorite. Christmas is my favorite, Thanksgiving is 2nd because I believe it is closely related to Christmas. Third is the Marine Corps birthday. Those of you that know me understand this. Thanksgiving is this Thursday and Priscilla is planning a "small" gathering. The importance of this day is more than turkey and mashed potatoes. It gives us a chance to reflect and be thankful for the blessings we have. And I have a lot to be thankful for. Have a great day and I look forward to the leftovers.

As I promised, I have the next 3 stencils (new) for your review.

#8.  Sakura Blossom - this is a playful design that offers you the opportunity to be very creative. I think I would use the variegated foils on the leaves (some people would say wings) and embossing powders on the flower. Do the image a second time and cutout the flower and pop it (3d dot) on your original embossed image. It could even spin if you wanted to.

#9 Sakura Sunburst - This almost reminds me of a sand dollar. Use embossing paste and sprinkle beach sand on it. The sakura flower - maybe mix the red and white embossing pastes together to get a softer red. I think this would look stunning on black card stock. Glossy black would look fantastic. Ok... I did it in purple ..Ha! Purple is the favorite color of the ladies on the island.

#10 Sakura Wheel - Dry emboss this with the Big Shot and use your mica powders. Work from dark to light - the darker tones on the outside and gradually getting lighter as it reaches the inner edge of the leaf. Play with the inner "wheel" and be creative. an option would be to layer a clear plastic over the finished image and place a small Asian coin in the center. Apply rub-ons for a sentiment or use another stencil (happy birthday, etc) and embossing paste.

Well, there you have it - nine new designs for you to choose from. You can reach me at 1-808-261-2882. I'll mail your stencils to you if you wish.

All of the images shown above where colored via Photoshop. We still haven't uncovered all of our supplies. I have embossed all of them on the Big Shot and they work beautifully. Please feel free to bring in samples of what you have done and I'll share them on the Blog. Did you know that if you have a scanner ( they're not expensive) you can scan our stencils into Photoshop and color them as I did. It's kind of cool because you can use it as a base color and then dry emboss them on the Big Shot. Try it....

I'm working on more designs and will share them with you as soon as possible.

See you tomorrow,

Bill

Happenings at A Place in Time on November 16, 2012

Aloha Friday,

I can hardly believe that it's been almost a month since my last Blog entry. I hope you all haven't given up on me. No excuses, I just haven't taken the time to write a line or two. The Lazer Den is just about done. I spent the other day installing a security door and the exterior window and door trim. I now have something I never had in the old store. I'm sitting here looking out at palm trees and blue sky - the trade winds are sending a soft breeze through the screened window and door .... I feel like I'm living in Hawaii.. When you come over to take a look at the new stencils you will find a potted plant sitting in the driveway. It's about 20ft from where I'm sitting. What I would like to do is landscape the driveway in front of the Laser Den to soften the approach and provide more separation from the vehicles. I think it will look kind of nice.

Art and I have been very busy. Engraving electrical labels, glass vases for a wedding, chopsticks for a 60th birthday, koa boxes for a company Christmas party, and much more. We also just got word today that we've been selected to make all of the name tags for the two Four Seasons Resorts on Lana'i.

We've also been busy in the designing of some new stencils that I think your going to like. In the past we were able to design one or two new stencils a month. Without the old store to run, I now have more time for designing and letting my creative juices loose. So, today I have 9 (yes, I said 9) new stencils for you to review. If you like them, you can come visit me me at our new location or I can mail them to you. So, here we go....

Just in time for the holidays I have 3 different designs for you to choose from. Priscilla is still in the process of putting her new teaching space together - the enclosed "patio" was and mostly still is a lot of boxes. But she is making steady progress, so keep in touch with the Blog - you will want to take a class or two. My problem is that all the supplies are still in boxes. So the new stencil designs are colored using the computer. As you review the new stencils below, I will offer suggestions as to how I would use them.

1. Snowflake - a delicate design that dry embosses beautifully and if you look closely you will see I included the sakura flower in it's design. This image will look great with whatever technique you choose to use. I would use embossing paste and then color it. Something that would be fun would be to use a circle cutter and cut out the snowflake and using an eyelet you could pin it to the greeting card - it then spin freely on the face of the card. Where the circles in the snowflake occur use could use crystals or glossy accents.

SNOWFLAKE

2. Gift Package Border - Use this for Christmas or any occasion where gifts are involved. The stencil is sized for an A2 card. If you would like a suggestion, I would try the mica powders on the ribbon and bows. The package itself I would use the gold, silver, or copper leafing. All of this would be done over a base of matte black embossing paste.
GIFT PACKAGE BORDER

3. Christmas Tree - Just in time for the holidays - except for those of you that already started in July. Ha! Try using matte white paste as a base. Sprinkle glitter on the draped tree decoration and I would use clear crystals for the Christmas balls. Once the paste is dry I would color the tree and packages with a variety of chalk inks. It would be fun to let some of the white paste show through to give a hint of snow.
CHRISTMAS TREE

The next several designs are generic and can be used for any occasion. I hope you have fun with them.

4.  Bamboo - I really like the "softness" of this design. It would be especially good as a sympathy card. It dry embosses using the Big Shot extremely well. I would then mix the matte black and white pastes to create a soft grey and layer it over the raised image. You can then add just a tinge of color to the tips of the leaves. I also like the idea of layering a piece of thin plastic over the top of the card face. This would have the sentiment embossed on it. Simple and elegant. Don't forget, you can use the Glossy Accents to adhere the plastic to the card face.
BAMBOO

5. Asian Gate - I've always wanted to create this stencil. Here I would try using the Copic Pens and the Windstorm Air Brush. I think you could achieve some really nice shading. How about a tri-fold card? The stencil is an A2 size so your paper would be 4.25 tall and 11.0 wide. For you frugal paper users out there, you could get 2 cards from a single 8 1/2 x 11 piece of card stock. Now visualize this - the gate is the front of the card and is split in half when the card opens. Well, I've probably confused you, so come by the Laser Den and I'll show you.

6. Asian Woman - Dry emboss on the Big Shot and them play with colors. Use your Picasso from Dreamweaver to control the placement of colors. I think I would try dry embossing this stencil on a sheet of metal and then just add a tinge of color here and there. Put the embossed image on a thin piece of chipboard - fold the edges of the metal  around the chipboard and adhere on the backside. Mount this on your card leaving a decorative border around the mounted metal image.
ASIAN WOMAN

7. SAKURA BLOSSUM    8. SAKURA SUNBURST  and  9 SAKURA WHEEL

Your going to have wait until the next Blog - which will be soon.

Give a call if your interested in any of the stencils and please spread the word that we still exist and are doing some fun stuff. If you have an idea for a stencil - let me know and we'll have some fun together making it happen.

See you tomorrow,

Bill

Happenings at A Place in Time on 10-19-12

Good Evening Everyone,

I'm beginning to feel like I'm relocated and the pieces are falling into place. We now have phone service and it's the same number as the old store - 808-261-2882. I figured out how to disconnect the ringer on the base station in the house so the phone only rings in the Laser Den. Prior to that, the phone would ring and mom would wonder "what phone is ringing". Ha! It was kind of cute. Our space, Art's and mine, isn't totally complete yet, but we are starting to receive some work orders. It's nice to get back to something other than construction. Most recently we completed a job for 70 buffet signs for the Pahu i'a Restaurant at the Four Seasons Resort on the Big Island. That was followed by an order for 12 wine glasses that Art engraved a kanji and a small flower on them. Next were Koa Boxes and name tags. Not too bad for the first week.

My thanks to everyone who helped make this all possible. It's not the same, but it will do. If you have the opportunity, please spread the word that we are taking orders. I have to start making phone calls to let people know how they can find the laser den - or they can simply give me a call.

I hope you enjoy the photos.....and I'll see you tomorrow at the Laser Den. The hours of operation has changed a bit: We are open Monday through Friday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. If those hours don't exactly fit your need - give me a call and we will arrange something.

We used chalkboard paint on clear acrylic to create the buffet signs.
The chalkboard paint goes on easily and it gives you a "cool" medium to work with

Wood plaques are adhered to interior of koa boxes as award to deserving individuals

Bill's corner - it's small, but has a high tech look to it.

Happenings at A Place in Time on October 16th, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

It's been three weeks since my last Blog entry and so much has happened in that time. Art and I have been working non-stop to get our new laser's home built and ready to function. My first thoughts, however, are to thank those who have made this all possible. There are so many of you that lent a hand in making the transition of vacating the store. First there was the "breakdown crew". It took a lot of strong backs to remove and box up the store. I was amazed as to how fast it happened. One day there was a store...the next - there was boxes and store fixtures broken down and laid against the walls. For those fixtures that weren't purchased, Priscilla was looking for a non-profit organization that could find a good use for them. Secondly, there was the "moving crew". Once again it took strong backs to load the truck with all the "stuff". Priscilla had the idea to "enlist" the Marines. So she did. She made a phone call and that's all it took. We had our volunteers. I found out on the morning of the move that they warmed up for the move by running 6 miles in about 57 minutes. They provided the muscle that we needed and I am proud to be apart of the family called Marines.

The moved happened and our new location for the laser is almost done. I have to finish the ceiling and apply the siding to the exterior, but we have started accepting engraving orders - our first being a large order for buffet signs for the Four Seasons Restaurant - Pahu i'a on the Big Island. We are using chalkboard paint on acrylic cutouts of the Big Island. These will adorn their buffet line and tell the guests what delicacies they can choose from. I have decide to call our new space "The Laser Den". Sounds kind of nice. The phone company is expected today to provide service to the laser den and then I'll feel that we have been re-born. The phone number will still be 1-808-261-2882.

So what is next? I'm sitting here looking out the window in the newly converted carport and am thankful for the opportunity. I'll keep you informed.

Have a great day.... and I'll see you tomorrow at the Laser Den

Happenings at A Place in Time on September 19th, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday was an extremely busy day and the only time I was in the store was to pick up some tools. Our son, David (my stepson - but I harass him as if he were mine) is in town to help celebrate Priscilla's birthday. He was a welcome volunteer as we started renovating the space that will be the new base of operations for our laser service. We picked up windows and doors and I gave him a "short course" in framing 101. There is still a lot of work to do, but we made serious progress - It will be ready for the electrical contractor next week and then the slatwall can be installed on the walls. The last day the laser will be operational will be tomorrow - Thursday, September 20th. It is my goal to have the laser in it's new home on or before October 9th. Of course, we will continue to take orders and you can contact me via this e-maill address.

Since Friday (September 21st) is our last day that the store will be open, Priscilla and I have decided to have a small "function" at the store. Everyone is welcome and it will be from 6pm to 8pm. We will be serving "Sliders" - when asked, Priscilla told me that these are small sandwiches - not oysters - Ha! Bring your own beverage if you like - we will have water and juice available.

Wow - 3 days left - we've sold a lot of our inventory, but there are many, many items that are still available. At the 50% off you will get some great buys. And with holidays fast approaching, it's an opportunity to get your shopping done early and have some cash left over in your holiday budget. If your thinking of paneling a room, my I suggest you use some of our "slatwall"? It has a maple finish and is perfect for hanging a large variety of items from it ( Kitchen: pots and pans, Garage: general use tools, Media Room: add shelving and store your DVD's or place your various media equipment, Craft Area: hold paper and all your tools, stamps, etc.... The slatwall is reinforced with metal strips that will hold 60 pounds on a single hoo!  Come in and take a look.

That's all for now...... See you tomorrow...... and we hope to see everyone Friday evening and "talk story"

Happenings at A Place in Time on September 17th, 2012

Good Morning Everyone and a Happy Birthday to my Priscilla,

Yes, today is Priscilla's birthday. So, those of you that come into the store can wish her (or sing to her if you like) a happy birthday. I've known Priscilla for well over half of my adult life and I consider myself the luckiest man alive to have her as my wife and friend. She's the best.

For those of you that have been in the store recently, you've seen the changes as people are taking advantage of the terrific sale that is happening (50% or our discount table - prices marked). As things sell, we find ourselves in a constant state of consolidating product and moving it to the center of the store. We've done a lot of consolidating. Ha! But I'm amazed as to how much product we still have left. There is still a really good selection to choose from. If your waiting for an announcement that the 50% has now turned into a 70% or more sale. It's not going to happen. So I encourage you to take advantage of the great "deals" before we close the store.

I've posted a sign on our front door that our last day of operation will be this Friday, September 21st. So many of you have taken the time to express your best wishes and wanting more information so you can stay in contact with us. Priscilla and I can't thank you enough for your friendship and support that you've given us over these past 7 + years. Some of you have expressed your thanks and told us how we and our store have made a difference and changed your lives. It's heartfelt and and so very much appreciated - more than you will ever know.

I will be continuing this Blog and will use it as a vehicle to inform you what will be happening with Priscilla and I. Priscilla will re-invent herself and is already talking with Fran Kawakami, Debbie West, and Lynell Harlow for advise and possible activities. Most of you know that we are moving the laser operation to another location in Kailua and once we're set up I'll tell you where you can find us. Our hope is to retain our current phone number and I'll also be giving out my personal e-mail address for those contacting me re: laser information.

That's all for know. We have a lot of quality product on the shelves, plus there's a good selection of store fixtures that remains available. We even have a Pazzle die-cutting machine with rolling carrying case for $295.00, a silk palm tree, a silk bamboo plant, a Point of Sale cash register system, slat wall, grid wall, paper shelves, etc..... Sorry - somebody already bought Priscilla's chair. She will enjoy the back support and all of Priscilla's creativity that was absorbed by the chair will be imparted to the new owner.

See You Tomorrow........

Happenings at A Place in Time on September 12th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Things have been very busy at the store this past two weeks. The shelves are beginning to empty and we will be out of the store by the end of the month. We have started the final sale and you will find almost everything in the store at 50% off - no store discount cards and we will still honor your gift certificates. There are some exceptions: All Natural Accents (Brian's paper fowers) remains at 20%, all Seseme Street is 70% off, and special priced items will not be discounted. Excluded from the sale are all Memory Box dies. Please see the signage on the front door for further details. Our sample cards are $2.50 each.

Don't forget, we are also selling the store fixtures. They are a great buy. Stop by the store and I'll give you a quick tour. Spinners, tables, gondolas, treys for your paper, slatwall, gridwall, etc. - Priscilla is even selling her chair - it's a great chair with wonderful back support.

I am beginning to feel a bit sad now that we are entering the final days for the retail portion of the store. So much time and effort has gone into making this the best place for crafters to browse, learn, and find the supplies they need. What I will miss the most are the personalities that frequent our store. I remind myself that we are not moving from Kailua and that we are re-inventing ourselves. Art and I will look to expand our laser business and Priscilla will continue her crafting talents. We nay not see you as frequently, but we do hope see you. Priscilla and Fran are thinking of classes and Perhaps Lynell Harlow will pay us a visit. I look forward with an eye to new beginnings and surround myself with the wonderful memories of days past.

Fran and Priscilla are all smiles after reviewing the new line of Graphic 45 line that  recently arrived.
Do I sense a future class?

I hope you all take advantage of the 50% sale. You can help yourself to great savings and you will also be helping us by reducing our still large inventory.

I'll see you tomorrow......

Happenings at A Place in Time on September 8th, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

I have an hour and a half before the store opens and I feel like I have 3 hours worth of work to do. Oh well, when you run a retail store you learn to prioritize. The first thing is - the Memory Box order arrived late Thursday afternoon and I had it checked in and out on the floor by the time we opened on Friday morning. Memory Box has not lost any of it's popularity. We sold about a third of the new designs in the first day. Not to fear though, there are many of the holiday designs to chose from...but don't delay, I don't expect it last very long. For those of you that pre-ordered, I have pulled your dies and have them waiting for you. Please pick them up at your earliest convenience.

With our announcement of closing, the store is now beginning to look like it is going to close. Several of you have taken advantage of the great buys on out store fixtures. We still have a good selection - come in and make us an offer. We have a solid oak work table, an Asian styled buffet cabinet, grid wall, slat wall, a Point of Sale cash register, office desk system, plastic paper treys, storage "gondolas", etc. We're even selling our rolling baskets that everyone likes. Make me an offer I can't refuse on any of the fixtures.

Once again, Priscilla and I want to thank everyone who have expressed their best wishes for where our future will lead us. Art and I will continue with the laser engraving operation. Priscilla will "re-invent" herself and is very excited at the prospects. She has spoken with Lynell Harlow (Dreamweaver Stencils) and may host an event in the near future. Priscilla and Fran are also looking at future classes. And you know how popular Fran's classes have been this past year. So stay tuned into the Blog, it will keep you updated and "in touch" with us.

The closing sale will continue for another week or two and then we will lock the doors. You have a lot to choose from, so take advantage of it while the sale lasts. I'm going to start putting "unadvertised items" up for additional discounts. Everyone likes surprises.

That's all for now....  See you tomorrow....

Happenings at A Place in Time on September 1st, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

I thought I would start out this Blog with a photo. A Place in Time is filled to overflowing with great moments. This photo is one of them. Jenny's husband just returned from deployment and .... well, the photo speaks for itself. Seeing young couples like Jenny and Jeff always gives me hope for the future.

This photo doesn't need a caption

The photo is also somewhat symbolic as it relates to us, at A Place in Time, this past week. It's been a week since our announcement that we would be "downsizing" the store. Priscilla and I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of sadness, concern, love, and best wishes by all of you that came to visit. The store, as I see it, is made up of two parts - one, the stuff that lines the shelves and two, the people who have become our friends and extended family. It's the personalities that made this decision so difficult. We are not going to disappear from your lives. Priscilla is already thinking of doing more events and Art and I will still be doing our laser engraving. Stay tuned to the Blog for further updates. We will try and keep our current phone number at the new site for our laser engraving operation.

There is one thing that you can help us with. We need to make all the "stuff" in the store disappear. We would greatly appreciate you notifying your friends and family about the fantastic closing sale we are conducting. To create some additional savings for everyone, Priscilla and I have decided, beginning Sunday (September 2nd) to initiate a 30% sale - and yes, if you have a discount card you can take an additional 10% off. Excluded from the sale are all Memory Box Dies. We are offering all of the pre-made "sample" cards (your choice) at $2.50 each (no discount), All Natural Accent flowers will be 20% off, and anything that is "Seseme Street" will be 50% off.

We, thanks to you all, moved a lot of product in our inventory this past week. But as I look around the store,  it seems like only a small dent has been made in that inventory. There are many, many items that are still available for you to take advantage of. Perhaps you can do a little early Christmas shopping.

You may not be aware of it, but many of our store fixtures are for sale also. An Asian Buffet cabinet, bookcases, custom modular shelving, maple desk, wood work table, POS computer system, gridwall, slatwall, display/storage gondolas, etc., etc. Come in and take a look... we may have just the thing to fit your need.

Guess that's it for now.... See you tomorrow

Happenings at A Place in Time on August 24th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Priscilla is back and she will be doing her "Craft Snacks and Tidbits" session this coming Sunday (August 26th). 1:00pm - 4:00pm). As of this writing, I'm not sure what she is planning, but I know my wife and it will be a lot of fun for everyone. It's free and we ask that if you feel so inclined - donate a dollar to the "bucket" for the Foodbank.

What follows next is a decision that Priscilla and I have made regarding the future of A Place in Time. We have decided to "downsize" and not renew our lease at it's current location. This means we will be liquidating our inventory. A Place in Time will continue it's manufacturing side of the business with laser engraving, custom stamps, and stencils. My "Blog" will continue, so "stay tuned" for future developments.

This decision was extremely hard for us. We have thoroughly enjoyed this location and the opportunity to serve you, our friends and extended family. I wish conditions were different. However, the current business climate and continued rising costs is leading us to re-invent ourselves.

Beginning this Sunday, August 26th, everything in the store will be 20% off. If you are a current discount card holder you will receive an additional 10% off your purchase. There are (3) items that we will be excluding from the sale: 1. All Natural Accents Paper Flowers 2. All Memory Box Dies 3. Any item currently on sale.

Please stop by A Place in Time to check out the great values on our superior products. With the holidays fast approaching, this may give you the opportunity to get your shopping done early and save at the same time. We do not expect or want a long drawn out closing of the store. We will be out of our current location by the end of September.

Over the next several days, we look forward to seeing you and having the chance to personally thank you for your patronage and support during these 7+ years. Each day is a cherished memory.

The store may cease at this location, but the friendships will last a lifetime.

See you tomorrow,

Bill

Happenings at A Place in Time on August 17th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Many of you know that Priscilla and I went to Oregon for our grandson's 1st birthday celebration. I returned on Tuesday and Priscilla will be back this coming Tuesday. Although I only had 4 days in Oregon, it was a fun time to spend with family. It was my 1st return to my home state since moving here in 2005. August in Oregon can be interesting. It was actually hotter there than here and they don't get the trade winds. Ha! I had to come back to Hawaii to cool off. Priscilla and I are very grateful to Darrell West who ran the store while we were gone. Darrell did a great job and made it easy for me not worry while I was gone. Thanks Darrell.

There are a couple of new things in the store. Hot Off The Press sent us several new "Dazzel" designs. If you recall, these are the peel and stick stickers that everybody enjoys. They will be perfect for the coming holidays as the colors certainly fall into the spirit of the season. Hot Off The Press also resupplied us with several new papers for you to choose from.

We have a new stencil in the store for your review. It's a cute wave design and will go perfectly on any A2 sized card. One gentleman came in the store and he is going to emboss it on 100 bookmarks that he will use as gifts in his trip to Japan next month. I think they would make great "stocking stuffers".

We are expecting an order of paper from Bazzil any day now. We are also should see the order from Memory Box arrive shortly. Many of you have pre-ordered their die designs. The good news is that we are not sold out -yet. So if you want to be included, please come into the store and I'll show you the new designs. The timing couldn't be better because the designs reflect Christmas and Halloween - plus there are several that you have requested we bring back because of their popularity.

Wow, this was a state holiday and I thought we might have a busy day, but everybody must have gone to the beach. In fact, this whole month has been slow. Hmmm, perhaps everybody is on vacation.

That's all for now, I'll see you tomorrow......

Happenings at A Place in Time on August 6th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Yesterday's Craft Snack and Tidbit session involved making a fun gift tag that could be used for any occasion. Priscilla wanted to use a tool we just received in the store - The Scor-Bug from Scor-pal. If you want dotted embossed lines this is the tool for you. Use it with the Scor-pal if you want scored straight or parallel lines. Use it free hand to let loose your inner creativity.

Maude made this gift tag using our "Thank you" stamp, the Turtle Border die from Memory Box,
the Scor-Bug, and some beautiful ribbon. Great job Maude...

Priscilla will be taking the next couple of Sundays off for a little R & R. So, the next Craft Snack and Tidbit session will be on Sunday, August 26th. The store will be open while Priscilla is gone. Darrell West and I will be running things in the mean time. Darrell has a lot of talent when it comes to crafting and has a huge amount  experience in managing a store. He will be giving me a break for a couple of days. I hope you all will come by the store and say hi and make him feel welcome.

Shipments that recently arrived in the store include Scor-pal, paper from Bazzil, dies from Tim Holtz, Border Punches from EK Success, and Border Dies + Embossing Folders from Sizzix.

Did I tell you that we received the perfect gift for your friends on the mainland? They are your choice of insulated Lunch Bags or an expandable Tote Bag. They have a definite island flavor and you may not be able to resist spoiling yourself with one. For $5.00 you can't miss.
Insulated Lunch Bags and Expandable Tote Bags

Fran's classes in August are sold out. We are currently taking reservations for her "A Year in Cards" scheduled for Wednesday, September 22nd. The time is 6:30 - 8:30 pm and the cost will be $20.00. Give me a call if you would like to be included. You won't be disappointed.

Before I sign off, I wanted to show you a couple of birthday cards that Priscilla recently made. They are sooooo cute and reflect the interests of the grandchildren that will receive them. Can you imagine receiving a cupcake with candles from the Hulk. Ha! With Art's assistance in Photo Shop, the Hulk was modified to receive the cupcake. Priscilla has that creative spark that sees the possibilities and makes it simple. Anybody can make these cards.
The Incredible Hulk wishes you a happy birthday
You just have to smile when you look at this card
Lastly, Priscilla is putting together another Memory Box order for their beautiful dies. Many of you have requested we order specific dies. They will be included in this order, plus there are many that will be new to the store. As before, we are putting together a list that you can pre-order from. The holidays are just around the corner and and several of the dies will reflect the "season". I'll let you know when the list is ready.

That's all for now..... I'll see you tomorrow....

Happenings at A Place in Time on July 28th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Fran Kawakami had a full class last wednesday night. It had been sold out for approximately a month. Until the evening of the class nobody had seen the class samples. Cute, simple, elegant are the words that come to mind in describing Fran's beautiful cards. I thought you would like to see her designs so I'll include them in this bolg posting. Fran uses a combination of the new Mulberry Paper, paper flowers, various punches, and appropriate quotes to create some truly wonderful and meaningful cards cards. I encourage everyone to come into the store and see them in person. Bring your camera and take a picture or two. Great job Fran.

The watering can makes a perfect container for the flowers

This card is just tooooooo cute

Hugs are special

I like the soft texture of the Mulberry paper

The last of 5 beautiful cards designs by Fran. They look so much better when you can see them in person.

I reviewed Fran's classes for August and we have one opening for the Wednesday, Aug. 8th class. The class on August 22 is sold out. We are taking reservations for September and I believe October will be the last of Fran's classes for the year. She always takes a well deserved break for the upcoming holidays. Should I be talking about Christmas in July?

Priscilla's "Craft Snack and Tidbit session scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday - July 29th will involve making a card that she is calling "Dragon's Greeting". Those of you that have the time to come in and make the card will have a lot of fun. The dragon is a Dreamweaver design and the color is applied using Copic pens and the air brush. Other elements include a "Ring Background" stamp from Memory Box, barbecue skewers, and a fantastic border punch from EK Success. The session starts at 1pm and goes to 4pm (or as long as the kits last). It's free, but we do ask, if you can, to donate a dollar to the basket for the "Food Bank".

New in the store:
Memory Box dies are still a very "hot item" in the store. There are few left of each design, but several have sold out. Priscilla will be placing another order. Please let us know if you have a favorite or two that you would like to see us bring into the store. I'm assembling a list to meet your needs.

A delivery from Sizzix arrived on Wednesday and I could barely get the box open before people were asking if they could acquire an item or two. Your going to love the new border punches that Priscilla has available for you. They have a design that is Asian and they are really well constructed. Priscilla uses one of them in the "Craft Snacks and Tidbits" session mentioned above. Also new in the store is the ever popular embossing folders. Something that I'm excited about is a new tool that you can use with you embossing folders. It's a "Diffuser" that allows you to emboss parts of the folder design. It will leave areas "free" for you to stamp, print, and embellish. Also new in the store are some new dies from Tim Holtz and the magnetic trey that works extremely well in the "Big Shot".

Well, I think that's all for tonight..... I'll see you tomorrow

Happenings at A Place in Time on July 24th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

Sunday's at our store is usually a little laid back and sometimes a bit slow. That was true until Priscilla started her weekly "Craft Snacks and Tidbits" activity. This past Sunday was super busy - thank you. I don't think either Priscilla or I had a chance to eat lunch. Take a look at the photos I've included below. If you want to be a part of the fun, Priscilla will have another "session" this coming Sunday (July 29th 1:00 - 4:00pm) - it's free, but you can donate a dollar to the basket for the Foodbank. I just asked Priscilla what she has in mind for this coming Sunday - her response - "A Card". Ha! Knowing Priscilla, it will be more than just a card and you'll walk out of the store with something "neat".

Priscilla's "Pop-up Surprise" - Pull up the butterfly and it revealed a tasty snack

It was a full table that that continued to stay full as the hours past by

Three visitors from Japan are enjoying themselves. It seems crafting is a universal  language

Don't you just love it when crafters think "outside of the box". They glued the flowers to their hats. Super cool

Great news.... A new shipment of Graphic 45 paper arrived yesterday and I promise to have them on the shelves before we open on Wednesday. Your going to love this line of paper. Some have very vibrant colors - others have an eclectic kraft-paper design. Scenes of Paris, Greece, fashion, floral, etc. There are 15 different papers to choose from and I'm sure you'll enjoy the selection.

Great - great news.... The Memory Box dies arrived on Monday along with the Graphic 45 paper. Those of you that pre-ordered can swing by the store and see me for your dies. The pre-sales went very well, but there is still a good selection to chose from. Many of the designs are new to the store. It will be interesting to see how long they last. If you haven't used them before, please come in and Ill give yo a quick demo.

Fran's next class is her "A Year in Cards" on Wednesday, July 25th. The class is sold out. In case you didn't know, the store stays open on class nights. It's not unusual to find us still open at 10:00pm. So, if your running late you can still pick up what you need.

Fran's classes for August just filled up. Believe it or not, we are now taking reservations for September. Fran's classes are a lot of fun and you will learn some interesting craft secrets. As I get more details I will enter them in the Blog. Give me a call if you would like to sign up for one of them.

That's all for now...... short and sweet...... I'll see you tomorrow......

Happenings at A Place in Time on July 19th, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

I have just a couple of offerings for you today. Short and sweet.

Our granddaughter, Makana, lives on the Big Island. And for those of you that frequent our store, you have seen the scrapbook pages of her fishing and hunting exploits. July is her birthday and she now is 11 years old. The time does fly by very fast. I wanted to share with you the birthday card Priscilla made for Makana. It's a truly beautiful card that is made with all the care and love that a grandmother can put into a card. We don't have the sample in the store, so you'll have to make do with my humble attempt at a photograph. You will be able to make the card for yourself though. We have the Sister Stamp, Accucut Die, and the various other elements that make up the card design in the store.

Priscilla's "Craft Snack and Tidbit" session for this coming Sunday (July 22nd 1:00 - 4:00pm) is truly innovative. You will take something that everyone has in their home and transform it into a fun party favor.
Priscilla uses a Memory Box butterfly die(s), a sizzix flower die, Mulberry paper that she embossed with a Dreamweaver stencil, and the Copic Pens to add color. If you have the time or make the time to come in on Sunday and you'll enjoy making the "Craft Snack and Tidbit". Remember, it's "free".

Did you know that you can emboss and color Mulberry paper??

That's all for now.....I have to get the store ready to open... see you tomorrow....

Happenings at A Place in Time on July 12th, 2012

Good Evening Everyone,

First up, Priscilla and I want to thank everyone who attended Jenny Sakamoto's "Make and Take It". There was a constant flow of people into the store and Jenny's gift holder was fun to make. Even more exciting are the photos of Jenny's "samples" that she brought with her. You should be able get several ideas for your next project. The Make and Take put a "dent" in our inventory of Sister Stamps, but we still have a nice selection to choose from.

Once a month, a "kit" arrives from Memory Box. This months kit includes a beautiful soft blue paper (8 1/2 x 11) with small white dots, a pack of A2 cards (25) with envelopes, and the "Hibiscus" die that everyone wants.

Hibiscus Die from Memory Box

After a week in the store, the current selection of Memory Box Dies are almost sold out. We are down to single selections of each design. Those that pre-ordered are the happy ones. But not to worry, Priscilla has already placed another order. It includes some of the favorites from previous orders plus several that will be "new" to the store. The pre-order sales have again been brisk and I encourage you to take a look at the photos the next time you are in the store. I guarantee you will like what you see. If you haven't used the Memory Box dies - I'll give you a quick demo. The thing that makes Memory Box so popular is that you can make a very detailed, beautiful embellishment in about 5 seconds. The pricing I know you will like also.

Priscilla's "Craft Snacks and Tidbits" sessions are becoming a "thing to do on Sundays". Last Sunday, Priscilla had everyone making a pocket book with the new "Mulberry" paper we recently acquired. It was a a lot fun and Priscilla had to "scramble" to make extra kits for everyone. I hope we will see you this coming Sunday (15th).

Priscilla's pocket book made from Mulberry paper

Craft Snacks and Tidbits happen every Sunday 1:00 - 4:00pm. It's free. See you on the July 15th, 22nd, and  29th. There is no fee, but if you like you can "put a dollar" in the jar for the Food Bank.

Fran had her mystery class last night. As usual, it was a full class. Fran did a super job blending the "Konnichiwa" paper from Basic Grey into a truly beautiful flip book.

Fran's "Flip Book"

Fran's class for August are beginning to fill up. On Wednesday Aug. 8th Fran's class will be entitled "Flip Book Too". (yes, the spelling is correct). There are seats available and I'll post the sample as soon as Fran has it put together. August 22nd will be the next in Fran's popular "A Year in Cards" series. There are a couple of seats still available, so give me a call if your interested. The cost of the classes are $20.00. Our store policy is to give anyone taking a class a 10% discount on any purchases you make the night of the class. If you have a store discount card you will receive an additional 10% off the items you buy. It's a great deal and you have the fun in making something that you will really enjoy.

That's all for now.... See you tomorrow .... See you on Sunday for Priscilla's "Craft Snacks and Tidbets"
