Happenings on July 26th

Good evening all,

Have you ever wondered what Priscilla and I do on our "day off"? Today was a typical Tuesday. I'm up at 5:00am and Starbucks becomes a stop on the way to the store. Then there's the morning paper work from the previous day. Priscilla arrives with a smile and we check out the new movies and the show times. Are there any errands we have to run? Our schedule is set and we're off. The errands are minimal today so we have the luxury of going to the 12:50 matinee. Have you been to a movie lately. A bag of popcorn and two drinks cost more than the two tickets to get in to see the movie. But still it's a "date" and we enjoy it a lot. Today we saw Captain America and it was fun and entertaining. After the show it's back to the store. Priscilla is doing thank you cards to the kids and I'm working on a couple of projects back in manufacturing. We'll probably eat out and enjoy one of Kailua's many restaurants. Thank goodness for spell check - I can never spell restaurant.

I thought I'd share our two newest stencils with you. We are calling them the Palm Moon and they are designed to fit an A2 card. They haven't been "colored" yet, but that will happen tomorrow. On one I used copper embossing paste and the other matte white embossing paste.
I hope you like them.

Priscilla is way ahead of herself, she gave me the sample for August's Make and Take on Sunday August 14th. I think I'll call it Butterflies are Free. Priscilla's creativity amazes me. She used the Bead Maker template from Hot Off The Press to make the body of the butterfly. Without this detailing, the butterfly would be just any other diecut butterfly. Add a little wire and attach it a gift bag and you have a really "party favor" for your next event.

Now for some exciting news! We have a great new pricing on the Eclips die cutting machine by Sizzix. This is the same machine that you all have seen in our store. If you've contemplated purchasing this machine, now is the time. Come on in and ask us about the details. You won't be disappointed.

That's all for now..... See you tomorrow

Happenings on July 25th

Good morning to you all,

"I'll get even"!!!!! For those of you that read my last blog, you will know that comment was Priscilla's response to the "Bush Trimming Episode". She will try.... Ha! I'm an easy target.

Fran brought in the samples for her class ("A Year in Cards" - Sympathy) this Thursday the 28th of July. She has done a fantastic job in showing that a somber occasion doesn't have to be all shades of grays, blacks, and whites. She even uses a touch of glitter glue on the rose. I'm going to show you 4 of the 5 cards you be making. I'm saving the 5th (I think it's the best of the bunch as a surprise for those taking the class. The samples will be on display today (Monday) for your viewing pleasure. There are still some seats available, so give me a call if you would like to sign up. The tools that you will need, Paper trimmer, Scissors, Piercing tool and mat, Pencil, Glue or tape adhesive, and a crop-a-dile.

I want to make sure you receive this as soon as possible, so I'm going to make this blog entry a short one. One other thing I want to mention is that we've developed 2 new stencils for the store - We call them The Palm Moon. They are designed to fit an A2 card either vertically or in the horizontal. They dry emboss beautifully on the Big Shot and I've done one with the copper paste. I'll include a sample in my next blog. Or.... come in and take a peek for yourself.

That's all for now see you today...... errrr.. tomorrow

Happenings on July 21st

Good evening all,

It's been about a week since my last entry so I thought I'd best get with the program. Blame it on the fact that I'm another year older n
ow and perhaps a bit slower. My thanks to all of you that remembered my
birthday by bringing in the ono goodies. Life is made special by the people who have come into our lives and share of themselves. I am truly blessed. I don't even mind getting older. It just puts me closer to retirement.

When Priscilla and I were living on the mainland, we belonged to a Hawaiian club. It was fun. Priscilla was in charge of the monthly newsletter. That wasn't always all that much fun. You see, every once in a while Priscilla would catch me doing something "funny stupid" and she would write about it in the newspaper. Well.... you see what's coming? At least I think it is humorous. Priscilla had told our landlord that she would take care of trimming the sticky bush
in front of our store. So, true to her word, Priscilla is out there wednesday morning, with her tools in hand, and "wackin" the bush. I got up from my desk to see how things were going and I had to laugh at what I saw. I don't believe I have ever seen someone doing landscaping in "heels" before. I know, it's a small thing (they aren't super high heels) but I took a couple of pictures to share with you all. Hmmmmm - I wonder how much I'm going to have to pay for this?

I've been fairly busy this last week. The Sister Stamps, Liquid Pearls, and Embossing Folders are all but sold out. Just a few left. And our extended sale will end this coming Sunday. See the preceding blog entries for the details or give me a call.

The last class for the month is Fran's "A Year in Cards" on thursday July 28th. She has promised me samples soon and I'll share them with you when they arrive. Her class last week sure wasn't dependent upon samples. It sold out before I could post anything.

We are making progress with the "Mokes" stencil. It should be ready soon. Manufacturing has been very busy. Art is in the process of making another 400 name tags for the resort side of the Four Seasons Hualalai . On top of that Art is engraving surfboards, wedding glassware, making custom stencils and stamps, personalizing koa boxes, and replenishing our stock on the store floor. Let us know if we can do anything for you.

That's all for now dinner is waiting.. See you tomorrow.

Happenings on July 15th

Good Morning All,

WE'VE BEEN INVADED!!!!!!!!! The Copic Pen delivery arrived yesterday and there are oh so many new colors to choose from. Priscilla , not only brought in 44 new colors to the store, but there are 13 colors that are new to the island. Now, those of you that know me, know that I'm a "little strange". I like the relationship of numbers and the words that people use to describe an item. The names of a few of these pens are intriguing. There's Atoll, Pale Blackberry, Ocean Mist, Ice Mint, Acid Yellow, and Hollyhock to name a few. Now we don't have a "ton" of each color. Because we want to offer a wide selection, we bring in a few of many selections (it also keeps the budget under control). You all know what budgets are? For those of you that have been waiting, we've restocked the shelves with the Glitter Pen Sets and the Clear Glitter Pens also.

I

It will be fun trying out the new pens with the new stamps from Sister Stamps and Greeting Farm. I'm a "Newbie" when it comes to stamping. I've heard people say "I'm no good at Stamping"!!!! Well, if a guy can do it, anybody can. In a way, using color on a stamp is no different than using your children's coloring book - all you have to do is stay in the lines. Now I don't mean to diminish the sophistication that can be obtained by you all that have been doing it for awhile. Your cards are beautiful and I hope that I can someday achieve what you do. The blending, the shading, the color selection - Wow - you all do amazing things with a stamp and a pen. But for those just starting out - don't be afraid to try - come in and we can play with it together.

I wish I had taken a picture of Fran's class last night -"Iris Folding Made Easy". It really turned out to be easy and the ladies had a lot of fun with the various designs. I overheard that some of the designs can be done in 5 minutes. OK - now I've got to have Fran show me how.

Fran's next class is on the 28th of July and is a part of her "A Year in Cards" series. Once I get samples I'll post them, but like with her class last night, the class can sell out before the samples arrive. If your interested give me a call.

Thank you, to all of you that took the time to wish me a happy birthday. July 13th was special for me. Priscilla spoiled me and some of you brought me some ono goodies. Thank you - Thank you.

See you tomorrow,

UB

Happenings on July 11th

Good Evening All,

Thought I would share a couple of photos of Priscilla's Make and Take yesterday. Everyone had a lot of fun playing with the Sister Stamps, Embossing Folders, Copic Pens, Liquid Pearls, and Priscilla brought out the Spica Glitter Pen set. We got word that the Copic Pen shipment has arrived and Priscilla will pick them up on Thursday. Those of you that are taking Fran's class Thursday night will be able to add to your supply. The shipment also includes the Spica Pen sets that some of you have been waiting for.

Speaking of Fran's class.....It's sold out! But if there is additional interest in learning this
fascinating technique, please let me know and perhaps Fran can repeat it next month. I'd like to take the class.

A few additional papers from Creative Imaginations arrived today. The papers are entitled: Sorcery, Atlas, and Diamante. My favorite is Sorcery... soft leafy swirls is the best description I can offer. It would be perfect for both the card maker and scrapbooker. I'll have it tagged and on the floor by Wednesday morning. Atlas? Want a paper to describe your travels? This will accomplish the task. All three papers are in black and white and they say that you can paint them. Hmm!?

That's it for now... Have a good evening.

See you tomorrow,

UB

Happenings on July 10th

Good Morning All,

It's a glorious morning in paradise. The sun is out and there's a soft breeze that is playing with the palm trees. It's the kind of morning that one pictures of Hawaii when you live anyplace else. I wish I was sitting on the patio reading the newspaper, sipping some lemonade, and just enjoying the moment. But here I am at the computer, and it's not bad.

Fran came in yesterday with the samples of her "Iris Folding Made Easy" class. The class is next Thursday (July 14th 6:30-8:30pm). There's one seat left. The samples are spectacular and anyone taking the class will take home an additional talent in paper crafting. There are a total of five designs (I've included 3 photos for your viewing pleasure), that you will make. You may not be able to make all five in the 2 hour time allotment. Rest assured that, what you don't finish in class, you will have the skills to complete at your leisure at home. The tools required for the class are scissors, paper trimmer, scotch tape with dispenser, piercing tool, large gluedots, and tacky glue.

Cora came in the store the other day and had an idea for converting one of our turtle stamps into a stencil. She wanted it for a project she had in mind. So.. Art went to work on it and a couple of days later Cora had her stencil. She loves it and I'm starting to "play" with it. I used copper paste to start with and then plan on using the variegated foil on just the shell. What I am going to show you here is just the stencil itself. I hope you like it. The stamp version has proven to be very popular. We have another turtle stamp that I'm playing with, so perhaps in a short time we will have a baby brother or sister to accompany Cora's.

That's all for now. Hope you make it in today for Priscilla's 2nd Sunday Make and Take. You'll be using the Sizzix embossing folders, Sister Stamps, and Copic Pens to make a quick and easy greeting card. After discovering the use of embossing folders, nobody will be able to say "I don't have the time to make a card".

See you tomorrow...... Don't forget Wednesday the 13th.

Happenings on July 7th

Good Evening All,

There are several thing to go over with you all. Sounds like the start of a board meeting - wrong!
Are any of you "numbers" people? Now don't get me wrong, numbers are just that - numbers - and they are fun to play with. Like today's date 7-7-11. I wonder if the 7/11 stores were taking advantage of the number relationship to their store? If not, they should have. Another date that's fun to play with is July 13th. Anybody out there know why? Stay tuned because we will have fun on that day.

Ok... First up is the Graphic 45 paper is tagged and on the shelves. As far as I know, except for a store on Hickam, we are the only store on the island to be stocking this paper. You have to take time to see what it's all about. I don't think I've ever seen a paper quite like it. The paper is fun, classical, and reflects images of a time past. The thing I notice the most is the very vibrant use of colors. For those of you that like decorating the Artist Trading Cards, this paper is well suited for you. The Card Maker and Scrapbooker will enjoy this paper also. It's perfect and it's two-sided.

How many of you have heard of the Sister Stamps. Two sisters that live in Hilo have combined their talent to design and manufacture these really cute and beautiful stamps. Initially there are 3 designs, Kiyomi, Mei Lin, and Mei Li. The sample I show here is Mei Li. It's gorgeous and that's not a word I use often. There are 3 more designs that are being processed. I have photos of them and if you would like to pre-order them I'll give you a 10% discount - discount card holders, I'll give you an extra 10%. Lets support these local ventures. Money spent on an island eventually comes back to you in one way or another. It's when you go off island that the chain gets broken.

A delivery from Sizzix happened yesterday. Now on the shelves is Tim Holtz's Mini Butterflies Die Cut. You will like the shape of these butterflies and they are the perfect size to use with any of the embossing folders. Speaking of that, we Have Tim's Pocket Watches & Steampunk Set embossing folder. I can't wait to make a sample. People really seem to enjoy the samples. It helps them decide which to choose or in some cases makes it difficult because they are all nice. Ha! It won' be long before were sold out and I'll be bugging Priscilla about bringing more in to the store.

Don't forget!!!!!!! This coming Sunday is our monthly 2nd Sunday Make and Take. It's from 2:00pm - 5:00pm. It's fun and it's free. We do ask, if you can, donate a "buck" to the bucket for the Food Bank. If not....no worries. This monthly event is all about fun and it's a time when you can ask questions. Like - what's so special about July 13th???? I hope a lot of you show up and surprise Priscilla. She's had a "trying" last couple of weeks.

Last, but not least, Fran has her "Iris Folding Made Easy" class next Thursday (July 14th 6:30 to 8;30pm). The class is almost sold out with just 2 seats left. No, I don't have a sample yet, but Fran's reputation is enough at times for people sign up. Me??? I'm interested to see how this technique can be made easy....

That's all for now..... but I feel like I'm missing something.... OH Yes!!! ECLIPS cartridges. We have 2 new ones in the store. They are "SUMMER" and "BIRTHDAY PARTY/FUN TIMES. And the timing for getting them into the store is perfect. One of the images on the SUMMER cartridge is a barbecue - hot dogs and hamburgers anyone? I like mine medium rare. Ha!

That's really it for now. My thanks to all of you that take the time to write a note to the blog. I really appreciate it. Any suggestions on future product or new stamps or stencils?? This is your store. See you tomorrow......

Happenings on July 6th

Good morning all,

I've got an hour before we open so I'm going to try to make this short and "sweet". First of all, I hope you all had a great 4th of July. Priscilla and I did. We had 2 days off in a row and that is a rarity. The fourth was weirdly quiet with the fireworks ban in effect. Except for one knucklehead who just had to blow off one of those "window rattlers", there was nothing happening in our neighborhood. Not even one sparkler. Now I'm probably in the minority, but I missed the family fireworks. And that's all I have to say about that. Priscilla and I enjoyed the annual Kailua fireworks display from our kitchen window.

Speaking of the 4th of July, we had a sale on various items in the store this past weekend. The only problem was - except for a couple of people, nobody came to the party. So, for the "sweet" part of this blog, Priscilla and I are going to continue the sale for a while. I've noticed that there can be a one day delay in the transmission of this blog. Perhaps you didn't get the message in time. My fault. Check out my previous blog for the items that are fantastic buys. The only thing we are going to take off the list is the 40% discount coupon.

One new thing in the store: Graphic 45 arrived in the store. It's a two sided cardstock that you will find to be very interesting. The various papers have names like "Awakening", "Postage", "Enlightened", "Steampunk", and "Victorian Transformers". My favorite is "Communique Collection" and "Steampunk Debutante". Somebody out there, please explain what a "steampunk" is. I know what a "punk" is...... Ha! Guess I'll break out the dictionary. Maybe I can use it in my next Scrabble game with Art. Art does the New York Crossword Puzzles, so you know who usually wins.

That's all for now. Before I sign off, I wanted to thank all of you that have taken the time to send us your thanks for having this store. It mean a lot to us. We try to make this "place in time" a special place to be. Where I fall short, forgive me and I will endeavor to do better.

Have a good day and I'll see you tomorrow....
