Happenings at A Place in Time on May 25th, 2012

Aloha Friday Everyone,

I've been wanting to get this Blog out for the past couple of days, but the elements have been conspiring against me - or so it seems. I have some exciting news to share with you. For the past month or so we have been working on a new stencil - "The Mokulua Islands". You see this image in magazines, postcards, advertisements, etc. They, like Diamond Head, the Koolau Mountains, and the Waikiki shoreline, have become an icon - when you see them you automatically think of Hawaii. We thought it would be nice to make a stencil that represented the simple elegance of this Hawaiian landmark.. So, this weekend (Saturday, May 26th), we will be introducing a new stencil to our store. The results are very exciting and we hope that you will concur. I owe a great deal of thanks to those of you that "volunteered" to make samples using the new stencil. Each individual had no knowledge of what the others were doing. The results are fantastic - they are mounted on a display board and are available for you to review. You may take photos if you like. To make this Memorial Day weekend special, anyone purchasing the stencil will get an automatic 10% discount and if you have our store discount card you will receive an additional 10% discount. Thank you again to all of you that worked so hard in making the samples. I owe you "big time".

Now that's not the only new stencil that we will have available this weekend. Art Hiu, our "wizard" in the manufacturing department, has designed a stencil of a "Geisha Girl" that has an air of elegance and sophistication. Holding a parasol and fan, she seems to be contemplating the koi that are swimming in the pond at her feet. Art has done an outstanding job with this design and those of you that have been in the store recently can't wait for it to be become available. That will happen this Memorial Day weekend. We will be offering it at the same special pricing as "The Mokulua Islands" for this weekend only.

Art's  "Geisha Girl"

Deliveries to the store are beginning to happen on a fairly regular basis. Many of you are anxious for the arrival of "your favorite" die, paper, tool, etc. Have patience with us, we have a big store to "feed". Newest in the arrivals are some beautiful 3-D stickers that have a definite island flavor to them. Sea Creatures, Zoo Animals, Island Icons, Hula Girls, Old Hawaii, etc. For fun, Priscilla brought in a variety of Tattoos that you can place on your favorite body part. Don't worry - they are removable. I may be wrong, but I don't see why they can't be used on paper also. The Tattoos would had a very nice detail to the card or scrapbook page your working on.

The last thing I have for you isn't exactly a mistake, but I can't say we started out with the goal of making it also. Art and I collaborated in making a sample using the new "Mokulua Island" stencil. We both knew the trick of tearing paper to create a template for making waves or sky. What we were not prepared for was the result of using the Copic Pens with the template and the layering effect that made the template into something very stunning. I just had to use the result as an element on a card. How many of you make A10 sized cards? Not to many probably, because it allows only one card out of a 12" x 12" piece of paper. This design demanded it. I'm not even going to try and take a photo of it. I don't think I could ever capture it's vibrant colors and the way they play against the sheen of the paper. As I said above, sometimes you start out to make something and the "residue" becomes something special. I think it's one of the best cards we've ever made. I invite you take a look the next time you come to visit us.

That's all for now........ I'll see you tomorrow
