Happenings at A Place in Time on February 28, 2012

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Priscilla and I want to thank everyone who took the time to celebrate our store anniversary last weekend. It was a fantastic - fun time.  Each morning I thank God and our loyal customers for another day. Saturday began with a big surprise when Debbie and Darryl delivered a "Dragon Cupcake" they had made to start the celebration. Several of you were lucky to be able to sample their artistry. I sampled it several times. Ha! Everyone seemed to enjoy the paper fortune cookies and the surprises they held. Winning the cookie proved to be tougher than I thought it would be. I guess knowledge of dragons isn't common knowledge in Hawaii. What you didn't know was helped by our "phone a friend" or "store shout out" options. For those of you that are inquisitive, here are the answers to the trivia questions: The dragon in "The Hobbit" was Smaug; Wales has a red dragon in it's flag; St. George became the patron saint of England by slaying a dragon to save a maiden; A dragoness is a female dragon; A stork is the natural enemy of the dragon; Asian dragons are mythical rulers of rain and water; Dragon's breath is blue; A Chinese dragon has 5 toes. Each day of the three day celebration held it's own mini surprises. On Sunday we had a visit from Tiffany - she became a regular customer when our store first opened. We were sad to see her move when her husband was transferred to a base in Florida. It was fun to reminisce of times past. So many memories and the best part is the memories yet to be made.

Wednesday, March 28th - "Pineapple Express" - 6:30pm - 8:30pm by Priscilla Teska  Cost: $25.00, includes (1) Free stencil. This is a stenciling techniques class which will cover the following: Dry Embossing, Pasting, Gold Leafing, Mica Coloring, and Ink Pad coloring. If you're new to stenciling and want to learn or would like a refresher class, Priscilla is just the person to show you how. Tools that you will need to bring include double sided adhesive and a flat blade spatula. When you come into the store you can see the samples of the various techniques. I will also include them in my next Blog.

For those of you that "love" stencils you will really like what I have next. Dreamweaver has arrived in our store with "force". It took me on full day to process the shipment and get them on the shelves for display. You are not going to believe the size of the order. We had to dedicate one additional gondola to accommodate everything. There are brand new stencils in the Dreamweaver line, stencils that you haven't seen in years, and many of the "old faithfuls". Not to be out done, another box arrived and we are now resupplied in paste, tape, brushes, spatulas, foil, and soap. I guarantee you are going to have fun. Easter is just around the corner and there are several stencils you will enjoy.

Art has been utilizing the Air Brush and Copic pens to create some new images and cards. Lately he has been experimenting with layering stencils to get a "new look". Sue borrowed one of his creations (Easter egg and Dragon) and created the card I have for your review. If you haven't tried the air brush, you have to make the time. I guarantee you find it to be as easy as "The Big Shot".

For those of you have made our telescopic boxes, I have a sample that Byron designed. It's "cute as a bug" and I couldn't resist sharing the photo I took with you. Byron is making several of these for "Girl's Day" and we helped by cutting out the boxes on the laser for him. The use of Liquid Pearls add the perfect accent. Let us know if we can help cut down on your prep time by doing the cutting for you. Thank you Melanie for "talking" Byron into sharing.

Priscilla has been creating also. Recently she had to make a thank you card and she used her favorite image - "The Dragon" stencil from Dramweaver. Art did the airbrushing and Priscilla added the "flavor". I specially like the red ribbon she used as a border around the perimeter of the card.

Make and Take it's are always a favorite of those that frequent our store. As a part of our store anniversary, Priscilla created a fun card for everyone to make. Butterflies, swirls, flowers, Swarovski crystals, and a lattice fold stencil are all used in making the card. Lots of laughs, fun, and the creative juices were flowing.

Lastly, we have designed three new stencils for St. Patrick's Day. The card I show below uses the new "Falling Shamrocks" stencil and the Catalina Border die from Memory Box for a little fun. You can also choose "Field of Shamrocks" (can you find the 4 leaf shamrock?) or the Set of 3. I think you will have fun with these new designs.

That's all for tonight..... Have a super day and I'll see you tomorrow
