Happenings at A Place in Time on March 4, 2012

Good Morning Everyone,

Today, I have class updates and project photos to share with you. Some of you may know that Pam Yee and her husband are back visiting our island. Pam has "volunteered" to add herself to our "instructor corps" for the next several weeks. Her first class is "The Power of Ten" on Wednesday, March 14th (6:30 - 8:30pm). In this class you will see how you can make 10 cards with a minimum use of paper (I think one sheet - not counting the card body). As embellishments, Pam uses the dies from Memory Box. The cost of the class is $20.00 and you will need to bring your Scor-pal, APIT envelope template, ruler, pencil, scissors, paper trimmer, and double sided adhesive.

If you like classes there is no shortage of them this month:

Wednesday, March 7th (6:30 - 8:30pm) - Tropical Flair II by Fran. The cost is $20.00 and I believe there are 2 seats still available. Please check my previous blogs for details and supplies to bring with you.

Sunday, March 11th (2:00 - 5:00pm) - 2nd Sunday Make and Take It by Priscilla. It's free for all who want to have a bit fun on a Sunday afternoon. This also offers you the opportunity to ask Priscilla any questions you might have about different techniques, what's new, offer suggestions on what you would like to see in the store, etc.

Wednesday, March 14th (6:30 - 8:30pm) - The Power of Ten by Pam Yee. See above for details.

Wednesday, March 21st (6:30 - 8:30pm) - A Year in Cards - Celebrations by Fran Kawakami. The cost is $20.00 and there is one seat available. I will post the samples and a list of supplies to bring as soon as they are available.

Saturday, March 24th (9:00am - 5:00pm) - Altered Art Adventure 3 by Debbie West and Pam Yee. This will be an all day fun adventure into Altered Art and Handmade Books. You will start the day out with a short "warm up" project to get your creative juices flowing. Have you ever experimented with making your own designer paper? Using a multitude of techniques, you will create unique gelatin mono-type prints and then learn how to incorporate them into other artistic projects. The 2nd major project will have you learning a single-needle Coptic binding stitch to create a handmade signature book. Pam tells me that this stitching technique allows the book to lay open flat. I have a flier in the store for you to take and the cost of the class is $80.00. This includes the materials for all of the projects. They will supply bottled water throughout the day. You may bring your lunch or there are several places to eat within a short walking distance. You will need to bring the following items: Basic tool kit (scissors, ruler, pencil, pen, craft knife, cutting mat, bone folder, awl, and glue). Optional, but helpful: a Scor-pal. Word has it that Priscilla will be signing up for this class.

Wednesday, March 28th (6:30 - 8:30pm) - "Pineapple Express" Stenciling Techniques by Priscilla. The cost is $20.00 and includes a free stencil. This will be a great class for those that are new to stenciling or to those that would like a "refresher"class. You will learn how easy it is to use a stencil in a variety of applications. Try your hand at "Dry Embossing", "Pasting", "Gold Leafing", "Mica Coloring", and "Ink Pad Coloring". Many of these applications you have seen on the samples we have on display in the store. They look beautiful and people think they must be difficult to do. They are wrong. You will discover for yourself  just how easy it is by taking this class. The supplies you will need to bring are double sided adhesive tape or tape runner, and a 4" flat blade spatula for applying the paste.

Lastly, I have a couple of samples for your review. Art has been using the Eclips to create different embellishments for St. Patrick's Day and Easter. He welded the the letters in Happy Easter with the egg shape and a cute little bunny to create an embellishment that can have multiple uses. As shown in the photo, you can layer the egg on any paper to create an interesting color to your egg. Add dimension to the bunny by using liquid pearls or glitter glue to the ears, tail, and eye. Last week we created three new stencils that you can use in conjunction with St. Patrick's Day. The one we show here is called "Field of Shamrocks". I think it makes a great background for any card and the four leaf shamrock is thrown in for fun. The Ecal software for the Eclips was used by Art to create both embellishments.

That's all for now.... I started writing the Blog this morning before we opened and now I'm finishing it after closing time. It was a busy day. Today we had people from Arizona, Florida, and New Jersey. We are getting more calls from visitors asking "How do I get to Kailua". I getting to know the bus routes with thanks to Art. Ha! Anyway, I really enjoy the variety of people that find us in "little" Kailua. .... See you tomorrow.
